Benefits of Hammock Swing

Hammocks are great for spending some peaceful time outdoors; you may be surprised to know that hammock swings also have many health benefits.
Many therapists are recommending hammock swings to patients because of the resulting health benefits. Once such benefit of using one is having reduced back and neck pain.

When lying in one your entire body is “hugged” so that all your weight is distributed over the surface area of your body. This reduces the amount of weight that rests on your muscles unlike when sleeping in a bed. Once you remove the weight from these pressure points allows your muscles and spine to help realign to reduce the pain in those areas. A large number of Americans have back and neck pain. Many times there isn’t much you can do to alleviate the pain. If this sounds like you, try a hammock swing.
Another health benefit of them is gaining increased concentration. According to doctors, the swinging movement helps to stimulate the cerebral cortex. The cerebral cortex is the part of the brain that helps you concentrate and focus. Now you know why many people tend to read while lying in a hammock. The increased focus and concentration allows you to fully digest what you are reading more so then if you were just sitting in a chair.

These are just a few of the health benefits gained from a hammock. Once you get one and set it up you will start to see how relaxing it can be. This relaxation also turns into other benefits since you are in a different state of mind then you are when you are stressed or tired.
They are in no way a replacement for a doctor’s care, but many people are starting to realize health benefits from no medical procedures. Owning a hammock swing is definitely one way to help.

Care For Your Hammock

After spending some money on your hammock swings you will want to make sure that you protect it the correct way so that it will last a long time. Just like anything else that is used outdoors, they are susceptible to weathering, mildew, rust, fading from the sun and many other things.

To achieve proper hammock swings care, you need to wash it regularly. Hammock washing is a very easy process. Depending on the type you own you can either clean it in a washing machine or hand wash it. If it has spreader bars you have no other choice but to hand wash it. If there has no spreader bars, or the spreader bars can be removed, then you have the option to clean your it in a washing machine. Note that cleaning a hammock in a washing machine can cause faster wear and tear on the material then if you hand washed it.

To hand wash one, spread it out on a hard surface such as a drive way or patio. They don’t specifically make hammock swings cleaner. You can use a soft scrubbing brush with mild detergent to clean the surface of the fabric. Also be sure to scrub away any mold or mildew that has formed on the fabric or ropes. Rinse off the fabric with clean water and then hang it in the sun to dry. If you are on storing the hammock make sure the fabric is completely dry or mold and mildew can grow back on the fabric if it is still damp. You won’t know this until you open it and won’t be able to use it.

If you do plan on storing one, make sure it is stored is a cool dry place to avoid growing any mold or mildew on your hammock fabric.

Different Types of Hammocks

There are many types of hammock swings available to you today. When most people think of hammock swings they think of rope ones. That is the main type, but there are many other types to choose from provide specific advantages over others in terms of durability and comfort ability.

Let’s start with the rope version since they are the most common. Rope hammocks are usually made from cotton or nylon ropes. The ropes will conform to your body curves to provide comfort while laying on it. However the ropes are more susceptible to mold and mildew when used in the outdoors.

Fabric swings are the next most popular hammocks. These are usually are used with hammock stands. The fabric provides the same comfort as the rope version but also provides a little more stability since you are laying on a large piece of fabric rather then multiple ropes. Fabric types usually come in two varieties. These are quilted and Brazilian hammock swings. Quilted swings have a thicker piece of fabric that provides for a filler inside. This usually provides for a softer pad when lying on it. This is my personal choice as well. Quilted hammocks tend to be more durable and are also recommended for children since it provides for a more stable experience when getting on and off of it. Brazilian hammocks on the other hand tend to be much thicker than quilted ones. Brazilian hammocks are woven from cotton fibers that result in a thicker material. These types do not have the separator bars so when you lay down on it the sides of it almost wrap around the top of your body.

Besides these types of hammocks, camping, folding, and portable hammock swings are also other options. Portable hammocks are becoming very popular as you can now take it anywhere to places such as the beach, the park, or even an outdoor sporting event.
